Team Parties

- Make office parties feel less awkward.

[We also published an article on LinkedIn you might also like.]

The office party can be an accumulation of an entire years worth of awkwardness. For whatever reason, you may not feel comfortable sitting down to chat with some of your colleagues whilst trying to avoid the only subject that you have in common; work. Maybe there's been drama, or stress, or maybe you just don't like each other. To be clear, the aim of an office party is not for everyone to be friends. Respect, friendship and love are different words for a reason.

The office party can be tricky to navigate. There's the office politics and the unwritten rules that you must appear to be friends and appear to be having fun. And just to increase the risk factors, often alcohol is served.

Cigna study found that nearly half of Americans (46%) report sometimes or always feeling alone or left out. Social media doesn't seem to be helping either, as Generation Z was the loneliest generation in that same study. For our team building and development we point to the effect of this loneliness on staff retention and performance, but for the office party this is merely an indicator of how extremely awkward the experience may be for some of your team.

We make the office party easier for everyone with a simple event that's based upon our team building events. For these events we focus on getting everyone to connect in a fun way by facilitating fun storytelling exercises. Your team will gain most of the benefits of our team building events, and they will also be more prepared for larger office gatherings as they will have a new comfort with their immediate team.

Imagine how everything would start to change if everyone in your team was truly heard.

How can we do this in only a few hours?

We have developed a method to use storytelling exercises to get any group of people to start engaging and connecting, quickly and with unprecedented ease. We created these exercises and our method through experimentation with groups over the last 2 years, building on the knowledge we gained through teaching small groups to tell their stories to large audiences. In the past we even offered this experience to the general public every month.

This is not grade-school-style, cute storytelling. Everyone is asked to speak their truth and the truth sounds different. It is extremely engaging to listen to another human speak openly and truthfully. Everyone is unique and you hear that truth at our events. For the team party events we have selected exercises that steer the stories towards joy, celebration and gratitude and we can create others to match the themes of your team party.

There's no need to share anything that would make anyone feel uncomfortable, a person's unique perspective of a mundane subject will still be illuminating and interesting, if they tell their honest truth clearly.
